CJS Dash Mate Review

So, when I ordered this Dash Mate. I was a bit skeptical. I couldn’t tell (from the pictures online) exactly how this thing was going to work. When I received it. I was even more skeptical. So we pulled my husbands phone out of the case, before we left for town and placed it in this little plastic, spring loaded holder, and hoped for the best. (Don’t mind the dusty dashboard and phone, perks of gravel road/drive living LOL)
I was pleasantly surprised at how well this dash mate held onto the phone. It would even be suitable if the phone was a bit larger. I had to slide it one direction or the other a bit, to avoid the volume button. But other than that, it gripped it really tight, and I had no worries of the phone falling out of the dash mate.

Then came time to attach this thing to the vent. Again, I was a bit skeptical. It didn’t look like it would hang onto the vent very well. Didn’t seem like it would have much grip either. It slid right onto the vent slat, without any issues or force. It still doesn’t seem like it has much grip to me. However, it hangs on just fine, without any issues at all. Overall, the phone wobbles quite a bit when driving down the road, even if you aim the vent up or down so that the Dash Mate leans against the dash/vent frame. The thing is even if you had any other kind of mount (for instance the window suction kind), when a vehicle is moving, IT IS GOING TO MOVE… Therefore I have no issues with that. I mean, come on, it’s a moving vehicle lol.
We did turn it over so that the flat side, rested on the dash on the bottom of the vent/top of the radio. It kept it a little bit more stable, which made both my husband and I feel a bit better about it. Not to mention, if it moved a bit less it was easier to read the GPS while going down the road if need be.
Also, you can turn this so that your phone is upright, instead of sideways. We personally had it sideways because we were running the GPS, and it gave us better screen coverage. However, if you just wanted it upright so you could use it for hands free talk, etc, then all you have to do is turn it, the ‘grippy’ part on the back is set up so that it will grip the vent either way.
After thinking about it for bit, we started to get concerned. A lot of touch screen devices won’t work if they get too cold. Also, you can overhead a device easily. So we wondered what would happen when we had the air conditioner running through the vents, or in the winter time with the heat running. Even when the vent is closed, it still puts out a bit of air or heat. So we started looking all over the van for other places the Dash Mate might work, JUST IN CASE. There were several places that we could not fit it, because the grip doesn’t open up wide enough to do so. We DID find one place that it would work though, and I am sure that anyone could in their car or truck as well. We found we could clip it to the visor extenders. So even if the phone got too cold, or started to overheat on the vent (mind you we have an older vehicle, so those with newer ones where the vents close well, might not have this issue), we could put it on the visor, and keep it away from the vent.

Overall I love our new little gadget and it will come in handy when we go on long trips, our out cruising places we don’t know where we are. I highly recommend it. It is constructed well. The spring inside the part that holds your phone, grips very well. If you’re looking for something simple to hold your phone when you’re out and about, this is it!
I received this either free or deeply discounted, for the purpose of reviewing honestly. My review is unbiased and not influenced in any way, shape or form. If you would like to purchase this Dash Mate you can do so HERE
